Season 2 Hosts
Karen Wang (she/her)
Hi y’all! I’m a recent UW MLIS grad originally from Tucson, Arizona. In undergrad, I studied pollinator mutualisms and poetry. I’m interested in working with community archives, public libraries, and natural history museums/botanic gardens. I enjoy plant/slug/snail-watching, making blackberry cobbler, and brainstorming names for future pets.
One the best decisions I made in grad school was DMing Challen about cohosting a podcast…
Challen Wright (he/they)
Hello! I’m a second year residential student from Reno, Nevada with a passion for exhibit/curatorial work, digital collections, and indigenous knowledge systems. Some of my outside hobbies include: horror cinema, queer art, and hiking.
Season 1 Hosts
Carol and Parker (Kate) are two buds who met during orientation for their graduate degree. While they’re different kinds of queer, they’re both fiercely committed to queerifying the library + archives world, in order to make it more equitable and inclusive for everyone. When not drowning in coursework or trying to survive the pandemic, Carol & Kate can be found in local Seattle coffee shops knitting and gossiping. They are also avid D&D players. (Parker is a Half-Elf Cleric, and Carol is a Human Ranger).
Carol Fisher (she/her) is Queer Air’s resident queer married woman. Carol is finishing up her Master of Library + Information Science at the University of Washington. She lives in Seattle with her partner, Logan, and dog, Violet. Before starting the MLIS program, Carol served in the US Navy, where she worked in tropical meteorology and oceanography. She was stationed in Pearl Harbor, HI for 3.5 years where she became acquainted with all things tropical. She also has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Penn State University. Post MLIS graduation and pending her eventual release from the virus lockdown, Carol, Logan & Violet will be moving down to Portland, OR where she was recently hired as an academic Collections Librarian.
Parker (Kate) Miller (they/them) is out here breaking binaries and taking names. They are non-binary and asexual and, like Carol, are also finishing up their Master of Library +Information Science. Kate lives in Seattle along with their black cat, Hades. Before coming to the iSchool, Kate received their BA in Religious Studies at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, IL in 2014. And then, went on to get a Master of Divinity (MDiv) at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL in 2018. Post MLIS graduation, Kate hopes to find a position working in an archive and using the knowledge gained from their position at the University of Washington Libraries, Special Collections. Provided the world doesn’t become truly apocalyptic, of course.
